An international NGO synonymous with solidarity and committed to combatting inequality in the access to electricity and water in the world, Electriciens sans frontières has been dedicated to this struggle since its creation in 1986. Thanks to the involvement of over 1,200 volunteers and its partnerships with protagonists from local associations, institutions and economies, it benefits economic and human development through the use of renewable energies. It also helps to satisfy the key needs of populations across the world, most of whom can be found in remote rural areas under threat from an extreme level of poverty, the effects of global warming or a humanitarian catastrophe. In 2019, it received the UN Global Climate Action Award as a result of the work it carried out on the island of Dominica in 2018, an operation during which Giancarlo Pedote and Prysmian Group were committed to offering a hand of solidarity. For the Vendée Globe, the skipper and his loyal partner are continuing with their “1 click – 1 metre” initiative, which will enable electric cables to be collected for three strong new projects. The first, at the Saint-Charles Lwanga secondary school in Ziguinchor, in Senegal, the second for the Farafangana hospital in Madagascar and the last in the schools of N'grouli and Bawelessi in Togo. “Nearly a billion people are living without electricity in the world. Today, I am very proud to be one of the ambassadors for Electriciens sans frontières. The various actions in which we’re participating, whether it relates to our recent spell in Dominica, or now on the African continent, really give added meaning to this Vendée Globe project which we’ve signed up for with Prysmian Group. It’s a great opportunity for sharing experience and I hope that this round the world I’m preparing for will enable me to really shine a spotlight on the work carried out on a daily basis by this NGO and all the people working alongside it”, concludes Giancarlo Pedote. These three projects will be outlined over the coming days and the first will be launched on 1 November.
👉The principle is simple: every time you ‘like’ a post from Prysmian Ocean Racing on the social networks, 1 metre of cable will be donated to Électriciens sans frontières by Prysmian Group. It’s over to you now!
