Having gone into the yard for an overhaul in mid-May, the 60-foot IMOCA in the colours of Prysmian Group is now about to return to the water again. “The checks on wear are reaching an end.
The check-up of the mast, furlers and keel… all is now complete. We’ve also adjusted some minor details regarding the deck layout. Everything that we’d planned to do is virtually finished”, explains Giancarlo Pedote, the skipper of the boat, who has fleshed out his team with another two people for greater efficiency during this key phase. “Tony and Yoann, our two new recruits, have enabled us to get through our jobs list faster which means that we can launch this coming Monday. Immediately after that, we’ll go for a series of sea trials to ensure that everything’s working correctly and test everything in as many different conditions as possible so we’re quickly up and running again. Once I’m sure that everything’s okay, I’ll take a short and well-earned break after a hectic few months where I haven’t stopped, that way I can ensure I’m in good shape to tackle the preparations for the Fastnet Race, the first double-handed race of the season, which is scheduled for August”, adds the Italian sailor, who is now eager to get back out on the water.
