Last night, at 03:00 hours, Giancarlo PEDOTE, the skipper of Prysmian Group, switched direction and set a course out to the West. This shift in position was a strategic move which, within the next 24hrs, will hopefully enable him to hook onto some more favourable conditions with which to drop down towards the Azores. However, this passage will likely throw up a few obstacles along the way. The wind will pick up considerably over the coming hours with cross seas. I’m going to have to try to find the right balance between speed and preserving the gear. I feel fairly confident because over the course of the winter we had a number of outings in strong breeze.”

Some two days now since his departure, Giancarlo reviews his emotions. Some things are harder than others to leave! The sense of separation at leaving behind my wife, my children and my friends has been pretty complicated to deal with. It’s hard to say goodbye to them, especially in the current health context. However, not having to wear a mask anymore and avoiding the onset of winter are a bonus.”
