Simple and balanced little pleasures

As he prepares to spend around 100 days at sea, during which time the bulk of his meals will comprise dried goods (pasta, rice…), freeze-dried foods and hermetically-sealed dishes, Giancarlo Pedote is savouring his last few meals on land, rich in fruit and vegetables. “On a day-to-day basis, I eat a very balanced diet and in general I’m more fond of savoury dishes than sweet. As such, even though I’m prepared to run out of fresh produce fairly early on once I’m at sea, as a result of the conditions being less than optimal for conserving such items on a boat, I’m not overcompensating. I’m continuing to eat the same things as usual without going crazy with big desserts or similar”, explains the skipper of the 60-footer in the colours of Prysmian Group, who relishes a simple and varied diet. “My mum has prepared some fine lasagnes for me, which is a nice surprise. They are the kind of dishes I appreciate and the sort of thing I particularly enjoy eating at the moment before I head out to sea”, concludes the Italian sailor.
