Major sports events are not immune to the health crisis. Indeed, those participating in the Vendée Globe must this year be placed in a seven-day lockdown prior to the start of the race and undergo various tests by way of a precaution. Though some made the decision to shut themselves away at the weekend, Giancarlo Pedote will be following the recommendations to the letter and will go into lockdown for the first week of November. “In the meantime, I’m being very careful and wearing a mask at all times. Like a lot of my fellow competitors, I need to stay in contact with my boat”, explains the Italian sailor. “The major work is complete. We switched over the wiring harness in the mast after noticing there was chafing on one of the cables. Right now, we just have a few adjustments to make, then we’ll tweak the final details”, explains the skipper of the IMOCA 60 in the colours of Prysmian Group and d’Electriciens sans frontières who, as is his wont, is keen to leave nothing to chance.
