With the skipper of Prysmian Ocean Racing having entered the Pacific Ocean at the end of last week, Giancarlo Pedote is taking the time to consider his quest for meaning. “The Pacific Ocean is very calm. It is always coloured by light and rays of sunshine. I’m really at the ends of the earth. It’s quite extraordinary. I’m very happy to be here. It’s a voyage in the truest sense of the word. It will remain etched in my soul. Memories are forgotten with age, but experience stays with us. That’s why I’m doing this race. Since I was kid, instead of taking the road to riches and fortune, I’ve decided to opt for experience. The Vendée Globe is one of the key stages in the process and there is something fabulous about that.”
The skipper is also keen to promote Solidarity through his work to recognise the importance of the expertise required by the Électriciens sans Frontières’ volunteers.
