Gently making for Cowes

After setting sail from Lorient yesterday at around 21:00 UTC, Giancarlo Pedote, Martin Le Pape, Martina Orsini and Rémi Fermin are currently on their delivery trip to Cowes. Propelled along by a bracing NW’ly wind of 20-25 knots, they have however slowed down the pace so as not to arrive on site to early, the current reception conditions being somewhat perturbed in the UK due to the pandemic context. “The idea is not to go too fast so we can avoid drifting around for too long off the Isle of Wight, which is unable to host everyone. That way we can be nicely rested in readiness for tomorrow’s start in the best possible conditions”, explained the skipper of Prysmian Group. In this way, he and his small team should arrive on site tomorrow morning at around 06:00 UTC and be able to make the most of a favourable current to enter the Solent. It’s worth noting that the start of the 49th edition of the Rolex Fastnet Race is scheduled for Sunday 8 August at 11:25 UTC for the IMOCAs and that the total course equates to 695 miles.
