Tuesday night, the Vendée Globe fleet really took a pasting, resulting in some damage on certain boats. The boat Prysmian Group, which was among the group out to the West, was not spared by the bad weather, but fortunately Giancarlo PEDOTE had no breakages to report in the early hours of this morning. It was a complicated night, but I’m just a few nautical miles shy of the leaders and that’s encouraging. On today’s programme: resting, tidying up and immersing myself in the weather again to prepare for the next major weather transitions we are set to face. All’s well aboard though, that’s the main thing and I hope that my fellow competitors haven’t had too many problems either. This morning, once the wind eased slightly, I thought about the difficulties encountered and the different ways I was able to overcome them. We’re fortunate to be able to experience this and realise our dreams.” The Italian sailor is eager to promote solidarity through his Vendée Globe.   Thanks to the 1 click = 1m of cable operation, the NGO Électriciens Sans Frontières (Electricians Without Borders), partner to the boat Prysmian Group, is collecting metres of electric cable for the Saint Charles Lwanga secondary school in Ziguinchor in southern Senegal. Since the school opened, the establishment has been constantly making a name for itself on both a regional and national level as a result of the quality of the education it provides to its students and its brilliant results. A technical inspection of the building by volunteers from Electriciens Sans Frontières revealed that the students, teaching staff and various contributors are constantly being exposed to possible electric shocks together with a risk of fire or electrocution. As a result, this project aims to provide the school with a reliable electricity network, in partnership with a Technological and Professional Centre, under the supervision of volunteers from ESF. Therefore, the project is both educational and vocational.
