This Tuesday, whilst making headway around fifteen miles offshore of the Penmarc’h headland, Giancarlo Pedote and Martin Le Pape are slowly but surely repositioning themselves at the head of the IMOCA fleet in the 15th Transat Jacques Vabre. Thanks notably to a wise option to the east after passing Fromveur, the duo on Prysmian Group is now positioned in 10th place, slightly ahead of the Nicolas Troussel – Sébastien Josse pairing, the two crews currently in visual contact. “We’ve finished rounding the north-west tip of Brittany, not without its share of difficulty. Due to the lack of wind and the strong currents, it proved to be a bit complicated, but we played our hand fairly well. It didn’t look too good at the start, but we’ve come off well. We’re happy to leave this section in our wake though. Right now, we’re preparing to traverse a ridge of high pressure”, explained the Italian sailor’s co-skipper, who goes on to explain that the duo intends to hook onto an E’ly wind and is counting on its position to be the first to reap the benefits of it. “It’s going to be all about finding a favourable passage through this barometric ridge. The goal is to succeed in hooking onto the fresh breeze without stalling too much”, added Martin, distracted by a visit from a few dolphins this morning, but fully focused on the machine to get them out of this tricky zone as quickly as possible and begin to slip along downwind bound for Cape Finisterre.
