Access to electricity is a response to the basic needs of the most deprived populations. Today, nearly a billion people (which equates to around 15% of the global population) do not have access to electricity in the world. The NGO Electriciens sans frontières is involved in the relentless struggle to combat this inequality. Thanks to the work of over 1,200 volunteers and its various partnerships, it is favouring economic and human development whilst utilising renewable energies. The spotlight that will be shone on Giancarlo Pedote and Prysmian Group’s project in an event as popular and high profile as the Vendée Globe is a golden opportunity to highlight its actions and also enable them to progress through the ‘1 click – 1 metre’ operation, as Hervé Gouyet, President of Electriciens sans frontières explains: “2020 has been punctuated by a surge of both solidarity and generosity. For the past two years, the sailor Giancarlo Pedote has been shining a spotlight on the key issue of access to electricity and water in the world. By flying the flag for the NGO Electriciens sans frontières and Prysmian Group at the start of the Vendée Globe, Giancarlo is really pulling out all the stops to showcase a shared interest cherished by his partners and the sailor: solidarity. Carried along by this universal value, the sporting challenge will be all the finer. See you soon on our social networks to support the Electriciens sans frontières projects”.
